The befriending service Building Connection was created after a significant increase in young people contacting Childline about loneliness.

Working with a volunteer befriender for 11 weeks the service aims to empower young people to find a way through loneliness.

I led on the look and feel and was lucky enough to work with illustrator Jordan Andrew Carter. We wanted to create a flexible bank of illustrative assets that could be used alongside photography to reflect the building blocks of the service. With different patterns that had vibrancy and showed each young person’s experience of loneliness is different.

Since launching in October 2023 over 700 sessions have been delivered and lots of positive response from young people who have taken part in sessions.
